DEATH Tribute CD Update: CHIMAIRA, KING DIAMOND Members Lay Down Their Tracks

Guitarist James Murphy (ex-DEATH, OBITUARY, TESTAMENT) has issued the following update regarding the status of the upcoming tribute CD, "Within The Mind - In Homage To The Musical Legacy Of Chuck Schuldiner":

"Hi everyone, I have some recent progress on the DEATH tribute project, 'Within The Mind', to report. I have recently gathered the performances of both Matt Thompson of KING DIAMOND (drums) and Mark Hunter of CHIMAIRA (vocals) and both of them did outstanding jobs!

"If you've only ever heard Matt play with KING DIAMOND, his track on the tribute will be a big eye-opener. Matt is an AMAZING drummer, not to mention one hell of a nice guy!

"Mark Hunter delivered an awesome vocal performance that left me with no doubts whatsoever as to his death metal 'credibility'.... I spent my all my time in Cleveland with Mark, even outside the studio, and he turned out to be not only a very cool person but a lover of music in nearly all of its diversity, as well as being a serious fan of death metal!

"I can't wait until everyone can listen to and appreciate these guys on the level that I'm now able to!

"In short, things are going very well.... and it's all being filmed for a companion DVD!!

"Lots of exclamation points in this update, but I truly am excited to see this project coming together with such high-caliber performances and top quality recording standards."

As previously reported, the project, which was conceived by CKY guitarist/vocalist Deron Miller as a means to help James Murphy (ex-TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY) raise money for his medical bills (Murphy is currently receiving treatment for a massive brain tumor with which he was diagnosed in August 2001), is expected to feature a number of special guest appearances, including those by Miller, Murphy, Richard Christy (ICED EARTH, ex-DEATH, CONTROL DENIED, Thompson Matt DiFabio (ex-PISSING RAZORS, SINGLE BULLET THEORY), Dave Culross (MALEVOLENT CREATION, SUFFOCATION), Luc Lemay (GORGUTS), Patrick Mameli (ex-PESTILENCE), Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), Jean-Francois Dagenais (KATAKLYSM), Mikael Thomson (SLIPKNOT), Paul Gray (SLIPKNOT), Brett Hoffmann (ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION), Ross Dolan (IMMOLATION), Mike Chlasciak (PAINMUSEUM, ex-HALFORD), and Terry Butler (SIX FEET UNDER, ex-DEATH, MASSACRE). Other musicians that are interested in participating (if their touring and/or recording schedules allow) include Peter TÃĪgtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN), Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT), Eric Peterson (TESTAMENT, DRAGONLORD), Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND), and Ryan and Chad of MUDVAYNE. A summer release through Holland's Mascot Records is expected.
