Former WHITESNAKE/current M3 guitarist Bernie Marsden has posted the following message on his official web site:
"The new album is finished, the working title of 'Stacks' seems to have become the finished title. I'll explain:
"I wanted to record some of the songs of people that really influenced me. Many of these recordings were on the old U.S. Stax label. Jimmy Copley, John Gordon, Dino Baptiste and I were in the studio and started to put together our ideas for recording. We were into BOOKER T, ALBERT KING, STAPLES SINGERS and JAMES BROWN. Jimmy and John knew almost every groove from those labels. We intended to do mainly covers, and, after a couple of pathetic stabs at BAR KAYS tunes, Jimmy suggested I write some songs and we try to incorporate the old grooves. The first session was funny because we all thought we knew the songs but, as I'm sure many of my contempories would also find out, we knew them in different formats!
"So we recorded some FREDDY KING and PERCY MAYFIELD songs, a couple of new original instrumentals, and a bunch of new songs and versions of older ones by myself. The game of spot the influences can be played. I will look forward to your comments!
"The CD should be available early in 2005.
"Before that, the live recordings of the BIG BOY BLUE band will be on the site very soon. The album was recorded last year, so I have taken a long time to have it released. It features the big band — Graham Walker on drums, Michael Roach singing, and a special guest in guitarist and singer Ian Parker, a talent for the future for sure, great musician.
"The CD has a bunch of songs from BIG BOY BLUE, some classic blues and soul, and a version of WHITESNAKE's US #1 'Here I Go Again' beautifully harmonized by singer Sharon Watson.
"I am very happy with the album. It captures the evening and atmosphere perfectly — the sound of glasses chinking, and people dancing and having a great time in partnership with a great band - great stuff. Highly recommended!
"I am booking shows in the U.K. for March and April, hopefully with the CD line up of Copley, Gordon and Baptiste. Nantwich Blues Festival on 27th March, 2005 is one confirmed at this time.
"I will also be at the Newbury Spring Fair in Newbury Corn Exchange on May 18, 2005 so keep checking the site for all the dates.
"I hope to have time to 'meet and greet' in the venues on these dates, it is always good to have a chat."
